Both of these pieces, while they may seem drastically different, use the same strategies to break down complex information for different target audiences, while staying true to their models.

To Buzz or Not To Buzz is an article written and designed in the style of the magazine Popular Science. To incorporate the sense of wonder around nature that entices Popular Science readers, I decided to personify the beetles in this piece, making it sound as if they have the conscious decision making skills to decide which plants to communicate on. This personification is made vivid by the use of beetle images that stand out from the black and white page.

The Cost of Fast Fashion is a short article written and designed in the style of Elon University's Visions Magazine which features pieces on sustainability. Working within their brand, I included a two column structure, used the same text and colors as their last issues and, since the publication is virtual, did not include margin room at the center.

Both of these articles center around concepts that can be difficult to understand. To simplify them while keeping the integrity of the information and, in the case of The Cost of Fast Fashion, the importance of the subject matter, I used simpler sentence structures while keeping certain relevant vocabulary, such as the scientific names of the beetles or names of harmful fabrics, whilst making sure they are understandable in context.
